En+ Group launches the Clouds of Siberia data center
En+ Group has built the first module of the Clouds of Siberia data center. It has been built in Irkutsk on the premises of the Novo-Irkutskaya CHPP operated by the Company. The data center will focus on providing high-tech cloud services to customers from Russia and China.
Services to be provided to customers by the data center will include virtual computing capacities and data storage systems (infrastructure as a service, IaaS), software as a service (SaaS) and disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS). The level of reliability of the data center meets the requirements of the Tier 3 international standard, and all of its critical systems have been duplicated.
This will be the first data center forming part of the Clouds of Siberia network that En+ plans to develop in the region in line with demand for data center services.
In addition to building the Clouds of Siberia fault-tolerant data center network, En+ is also holding discussions with its Chinese and Russian partners on projects to build similar data centers for a number of anchor customers from Russia and China.
The global data center market is growing rapidly, with the volume and complexity of data processing increasing year by year. Every two years, the amount of information processed in the world doubles. According to International Data Corporation, by 2020, the global volume of digital information will reach 40 trillion gigabytes. The Russian data center market is currently in early stages of development, as well-developed commercial data center infrastructure meeting international reliability standards can be found only in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Due to a high cost of land and electricity, businesses are considering building energy-intensive IT infrastructure in regions.
Maxim Sokov, CEO of En+ Group:
"En+ is the first energy company in Russia to enter the commercial data center market using its own electricity, which is undoubtedly a competitive advantage of the project that we are implementing in Irkutsk, given that electricity costs make up 50% to 70% of the cost of cloud data processing."
