Irkutskenergo celebrates the Water Day

The World Water Day is celebrated annually on March 22. The aim of this environmental event is to raise public awareness of issues such as efficient use of water resources, protection of natural water bodies against pollution, conservation of potable water resources. In this connection, Irkutskenergo annually holds a number of educational and environmental awareness events for the youth.

For example, on March 22, an educational tour was organized at the Ust-Ilimskaya HPP for eighth year students of MAEI City Gymnasium No. 1. Employees of the power plant told the schoolchildren about the structure of the HPP and the length of the dam, and explained in what cases and how often excess water is discharged; they also mentioned the number of hydroelectric units and their capacity. Another part of the tour was directly related to the issue of water resources and their use; it touched upon sustainable use of water in everyday life. The schoolchildren learned a lot about the properties and structure of water, water reserves and options for solving the problem of water shortage.

Oleg Prichko, CEO of PJSC Irkutskenergo: "The main objective of Irkutskenergo's campaign is to draw the attention of children and the general public to the importance of water and its purity in everyday life. It is important for us as hydropower engineers to teach children to take a responsible attitude to water, including by personal example."
