LLC Irkutskenergosvyaz to start the construction of a Data Center in Irkutsk

LLC Irkutskenergosvyaz, a subsidiary of OJSC Irkutskenergo, plans to start the construction of a Data Center in Irkutsk. Under the project, its area will total at least 10 thousand square meters. The first stage of the Data Center is to be commissioned in the second half of 2014. Currently, there are no such infrastructure facilities in the Asian part of Russia. The Data Center will improve the quality and availability of information to its customers. The key customers of the Irkutsk Data Center are expected to include commercial banks, large companies and government institutions of Eastern Siberia. Up to RUB 2.5 bln will be invested in this project, including the implementation of all its stages.

LLC Irkutskenergosvyaz stated its plans to construct the first commercial data center in Irkutsk as early as in 2011. It is planned to prepare the designs before the end of June 2013. CJSC CROC Incorporated, which has already successfully implemented two similar projects in Russia, is the general contractor engaged to create the designs. The Irkutsk Data Center will be located in the Sverdlovsky City District of Irkutsk, on the premises of the Novo-Irkutskaya CHPP. Its customers will be offered a range of services which are currently in great demand: leasing the space and server equipment, accommodating the customers’ equipment, as well as providing so-called cloud services which will allow remote use of the necessary software on demand. The area of the future Center’s computer rooms alone will total 3.2 thousand square meters, and the number of rack spaces will amount to 1,300. Besides, the center will have a separate area for customers where they will test and adjust the equipment themselves.

The project also focuses on the seismic resistance of the building and its energy efficiency. As the Data Center will consume much energy, its power usage effectiveness will amount to about 1.3 (for every kilowatt of IT equipment power, only 300 watts will be used for cooling the equipment). The Irkutsk Data Center will be the fifth data center in Russia to seek Tier III Certification (its availability will total 99.982%). This means that all infrastructure of the center will have a reserve in case of a failure, which will enable to carry out maintenance and repairs to the Center’s equipment without disrupting the services. The Data Center will have a three-tier system of access, and security of both the data and equipment at the Data Center itself and the access to information will be ensured. The Company also expects to achieve the federal level without regional limitations.

Evgeny Fedorov, CEO of OJSC Irkutskenergo: “The power industry is still our priority. But given the economic conditions and the existing potential, we have to be flexible on the market and consider new growth prospects. For instance, Irkutskenergo has a unique infrastructure in the region and indisputable investment opportunities; we continuously consider efficient projects with a short payback period in power generation and related industries. Such projects as the Data Center enable to follow current trends in business, provide additional income for the Company and its shareholders and promote economic growth in Eastern Siberia.”
