OAO Irkutskenergo presents its plans to process ash and slag at the round-table discussion in Angarsk
OAO Irkutskenergo presented its plans to process ash and slag at the round-table discussion “The concept of development of the Angarsky Municipal District under the program for ensuring environmental safety for the population” held in Angarsk. At the round-table discussion, which took place in the Administration of the Angarsky District last Friday, representatives of industrial enterprises reported on the current nature conservation projects and possibilities of waste recycling. All participants gained comprehensive information on the present environmental condition of the Angarsky District. Reports were delivered by the representatives of the District Administration, regulatory authorities, industrial enterprises and businesses operating in the Angarsky District.
OAO Irkutskenergo presented a report on processing ash and slag generated from coal combustion at the power plants. According to Valentin Gorbunov, Deputy Chief Engineer and Chief Officer for Environmental Safety and Rational Management of Natural Resources of OAO Irkitskenergo, annual average volume of ash and slag generated by three power plants in the Angarsky District amounts to 710,000 tons. In the future it might increase up to 1 mln tons. At present, about 28 mln tons of ash and slag have been accumulated at CHPP-9, about 10 and 7 mln tons are stored at CHPP-10 and CHPP-1 respectively. In 2011, about 690,000 tons were processed in the district and used for production of cement, construction materials, aerated concrete and other purposes. Ash and slag are a promising resource for construction and road building.
The Company’s plans for the Angarsky District include eliminating slag heaps at CHPP-1 and introducing dry stacking of ash and slag at CHPP-9, which will allow to move the ash-disposal area out of the district. Dry stacking technique is successfully implemented at the Novo-Ziminskaya CHPP. At the end of the round-table discussion the participants made special mention of the high level of nature-conservation projects and of the importance attached by OAO Irkutskenergo to processing of ash and slag.
Evgeny Fedorov, CEO of OAO Irkutskenergo: “Obviously, we will continue a meaningful dialog between business and authorities. This is the only way for the district to resolve the issues of environmental safety and production of on-site construction materials. Processing ash and slag might become one of the key directions of development of this territory and it will certainly have a positive impact on the environmental situation”.
